Chicago’s Old Town Neighborhood is bound by Division Street, 1800N, Lasalle Blvd, Clybourn Ave & Halsted Street. Old Town offers a geographical and cultural middle ground between the more residential Lincoln Park and the more urban Gold Coast. Wells Street is Old Town’s most popular destination for dining, shopping and strolling. North Avenue Beach is the most popular entrance to the beach front and features beach volleyball, jet ski and kayak rentals and great people-watching.
Upscale 19th century townhomes and cobblestone streets characterize this picturesque neighborhood on the city’s Near North Side. Visitors are drawn to Old Town’s thriving entertainment district that includes several world famous Chicago theater institutions, including the Second City improvisational comedy club, the Steppenwolf Theatre and Royal George Theatre. Old Town is also home to one of the nation’s oldest annual summer art fairs.
Old Town apartments are relatively scarce due to the shortage of apartment buildings and small geographical size of the Old Town neighborhood. Many buildings in Old Town Chicago are either condo residences or privately owned. There are not nearly as many apartment buildings in Old Town as there are in Lakeview or Lincoln Park. Since the Old Town neighborhood only measures about 3/4 mile by 3/4 mile that further limits the amount of apartment inventory at any given time. These limiting factors combined with Old Town’s desirable location create heavy demand for Old Town apartments.
There are a few condo buildings in the Old Town neighborhood where one can find condos for rent from time to time. The luxury mid-rise condo building at 1414 N Wells is an excellent choice for a condo rental. This building offers a formal lobby, attached heated garage parking, 2 passenger elevators and an un-beatable location within the Old Town neighborhood. Built in 1995 by respected developer Pappageorge-Haymes, 1414 N Wells was once home to famous actor Johnny Depp. Wells Street is Old Town’s central hub of restaurants, shopping & nightlife. Wells Street is home the famous Second City comedy club that featured many young comedians who went on to great careers, such as Bill Murray, Chris Farley, Dan Aykroyd, Tim Meadows, Stephen Colbert, John Belushi & Mike Myers. The majority of the units in this building are 2 bed 2 bath condos and rent for $2500-$3000/month.
